It's always great to receive recognition for the outstanding work our team does while helping people who have broken down on the network. We receive many testimonials sent to our website, but in this particular case, the customer had sent it directly to National Highways, who then informed Balfour Beatty about it. As a token of appreciation for maintaining our high standards, Gary was awarded a £25 voucher. Well done, Gary!

Its renewal time for our IVR certification, we know how crucial it is to keep our heavy drivers up to date with the best training available. That's why we called on the expertise of Mike Gibson from Judgepower Training Services. His exceptional training techniques have always been a hit with our team, and this time was no exception. The few days we spent with him were nothing short of fantastic, and everyone felt confident and capable as they rolled things over - their happy place.

Last week, we were pleased to welcome nine delightful children from a local special education needs school onto the site compound at M3 J9-14 SMP Alliance project for a morning of road-related activities alongside our supply chain family. The children from Osborne School, Winchester watched a vehicle recovery demonstration with SAUNDERS GARAGE, even having opportunity to operate some of the controls for the crane. The students were able to climb up into the cab of a huge recovery truck to sound the horn and some had a go at wearing the heavy safety hat (complete with Storm Trooper style mirrored visor). The sound of the (very loud) horn reverberated across the compound and indeed the County of Hampshire. 😊 I’m pretty sure I saw a few cows in the adjacent fields jump out of their skins too! The Osborne students witnessed a cone-drop exercise with HW Martin (Traffic Management) Limited and Paul Spreadbury FIHE FCIHT from Virtus, with teacher Lydia Simpson even having a go herself. The students were all taken for a ride on a truck around the compound, visited the control room and had a go at moving some of the CCTV cameras. A whole room full of gaming screens was a place of wonder and awe as you can imagine...!We finished our busy morning with a session in our Community Hut on site, with PPE dress-up, Construction Vehicle Trump Cards and Lego along with mini-plant vehicles and road layout, before a goodie bag and certificate presentation from Andy Phillips at Saunders declaring the students as budding vehicle recovery operators – I even got one myself! Everyone moved between the activities with shrieks of laughter and glee, and this was not just the students! Our volunteers all had as much fun just watching the pure joy on the children’s faces. One student, a highways enthusiast, who uses this stretch of the motorway twice a day was excitedly signing ‘M3! M3!’ on his hand.Project Director Alan Crabb comments, “it was great to show and allow the children to experience what we do here. I have no doubt that the morning would have been thoroughly enjoyed by all those in attendance. It’s important to us that we showcase a world of work where there is opportunity for all and we look forward to welcoming more students from Osborne School, when they return for another visit before the scheme completes later this year.” A few days after their visit, we received a wonderful thank you card from the students
